This guide will walk you through how to update and configure the costing rules in the Projects Module.
1. Click "Options"
To configure the costing rules we must first select the options from the Projects Module.
2. Click "Costing Rules"
Then open the Costing Rules config.
3. Click "Materials"
Here you will find a list of all the subtypes configured for your system. You will see the name, the base type, the current Rule, and the Default Rule.
4. Click "Materials"
The Current Rule shows how any items in the Project Profit and Loss are currently determining their costing. There are 5 rules available.
5. Click "Materials"
Default: this rule will use the system standard, you can see what the standard for the subtype is in the right hand column, the standard will always be one of the other 4 rules.
6. Click "Materials"
Costed Immediately: This rule means that as soon as an item is added to a project, it is considered to be at 100% actual cost already, there are no actions to be taken on this kind of costing.
7. Click "Materials"
Costed by Receipts: This rule means that the costs must be inserted by actions within the system. Actions such as receipting Purchase Orders or Completing Site Diaries will usually be where these receipts come from.
8. Click "Materials"
Costed By Consumption: This rule is similiar to Costed By Receipts, in that costs are inserted by actions within the system. This rule is usually only used on inventory workflows to note a second stage for items that are receipted and then consumed later. These records are inserted by Packing Slips and can be added on Site Diaries when configured.
9. Click "Materials"
Costed by Milestone Timesheets: This rule means that no direct costing will be inserted for these items, but rather it will be expected to come from timesheets completed against a milestone. This is most often used for labour costs, where it is impossible to assign specific labour to specific labour items.
10. Select the Costing Rule for the subtype you wish to change.
You can change the costing Rule for any subtype by simply selecting it from the drop down menu.
